THOUGHT - Do you Believe in
God? |
|
In 1998 the National Statistics Office
recorded that 58% of the population believed in God, but what does this mean?
For the majority of people it means that although they accept God exists, they
feel he has little relevance to their everyday lives. Careers, families,
friends, entertainment and daily problems, these are the things in life that
are real to most people. God on the other hand can seem far off and
unimportant. But he has great plans for the world and the impact on us, as
individuals in Old Trafford will be enormous. There is going to be a day when
Jesus will return to this world and set up God's Kingdom here on earth. With
God's power he will destroy all evil, injustice and suffering. There will be no
more muggings or robberies, no more ill health or pain, no more fear of
terrorism, no more oppressive regimes and no more war.
Isaiah 2:4 "...nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train
for war any more."
Revelation 21:4 "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more
death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed
away."
Is this something that we want to miss out on because we can't be bothered to
find out more?
Jesus said about the Kingdom of God: Matthew 13:44,45 "The kingdom of heaven is
like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then
in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field."
The story illustrates that The Kingdom of God is worth so much, it will be such
an amazing place that we should be prepared to give up everything to be there.
But not only is God offering us this wonderful treasure in the future, but he
is also offering us something right now; a relationship with both him and his
son Jesus. God and Jesus only seem irrelevant if we choose to shut them out but
let them in and they can transform our lives.

IN FOCUS - "Sport in our
Church" |
|
There are many types of activities organised
in our church and we try to give you a little taste of these in this section of
the Newsletter. In this edition it might be a bit of a sweaty, salty taste as
we are talking about sport. Every Monday night a group of people of both sexes
and all ages and abilities get together to play 5-aside football. We always
start the game by praying together and asking God to be part of our game, and
thanking him for the amazing bodies he's given us. It's a great opportunity to
share time and fellowship with the other people in our church and keep
physically fit at the same time!
There are many other sporting events that get organised too. Volleyball in the
car park, Table Tennis in the Clubroom, Badminton at the sports centre,
Ten-Pin-Bowling with Youth Club, and for those who consider themselves to be a
bit more refined, a quiet game of golf.
