IN FOCUS - Wednesday Group |
|
We meet on Wednesdays in one of a few different people's homes around Manchester.
It gets going at about 8:00 but we usually meet at 7:00 and eat together.
We sometimes just read from the Bible and talk about what we've read; it's always
surprising how much you can get out of just one chapter. From time to time though
one of us will prepare some thoughts or a list of questions to follow to give the
evening a little bit more of a structure. Usually when we've finished talking about
the Bible, we pray together and then enjoy some coffee and maybe even the odd chocolate
biscuit. Students and young people generally come along though it's not unusual to get
some older people coming as well.
(If you'd like to come along just ring Mike & Lucy on 0161 226 5831).

THOUGHT - "Proverbs" |
|
Just a few words from the ever practical book of proverbs in the Bible...
Proverbs 12:15 "The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice."
Proverbs 13:10 "Pride breeds only quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice."
If we're arrogant enough to think we know what life's all about it's worth bearing in mind
that so do most fools! I certainly feel we can all learn from this first proverb and
make sure that we stay good at listening. Remember that the wisest people are usually
the ones that are also receptive to what others have to say.
Speaking personally this includes listening to what God, the ultimate source of
wisdom, has to say.
Proverbs 21:2 "All a man's ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart."
Proverbs 19:21 "Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails."
We do spend a lot of our time turning things over in our minds and we so often try to look back
and justify ourselves. Nobody likes to think that they are 'bad', even the most hardened
criminals can usually site a host of reasons why they were acting the way they did.
God sees very clearly what is in our hearts and in the end he will take decisions
about our life, isn't it better to make sure that your plans are aligned to God's
purpose from the beginning?
