IN FOCUS - Our Evening Services |
|
The Sunday evening service takes place every Sunday at 6:00 pm and usually
lasts for about an hour. The service has a varied format and can include
praise, prayers, readings, drama, talks and presentations.
The services are led by the ordinary members of the church in Manchester
or by members of other Christadelphian churches. Nobody gets paid to lead
services at our church, the people who have the talent for it do it simply
because they want to see God’s word taught. There are never collections
for money at our evening services.
The subjects covered by the evening services are aimed at those who have
not fully committed themselves to Jesus yet, but want to know more about
the teachings of the Bible. We have a very wide age range regularly
attending. Some services are more suited to children (Family Services)
and some are more suited to adults but most evenings everyone can get
something out of what goes on. Every couple of months the What’s On
section of this newsletter will let you know what subjects are planned.
The subjects are often grouped in themes, sometimes taken from sections
of the Bible. If you have anything you’d like to see covered we’re open
to suggestions, why not get in touch?
The whole point of our evening services is to tell anybody that wants
to listen what the Bible has to say, and to say it in a way that is
relevant to modern life in Manchester. You’re more than welcome to come
and hear what we’ve got to say, come along we’d love to see you.

THOUGHT - "What do you treasure?" |
|
At first glance one would say that our society is very stable. Especially
when compared with many other countries in the world.
The recent petrol crisis has made many people realise just how easy it would
be for the whole country to be brought to its knees just from a lack of one
resource.
It is very difficult for us not to rely on the physical things that surround
us, our houses, cars, jobs, money, society, the health service etc. We assume
that these things will always be there or at least that they won’t all
disappear all of a sudden. In fact as a nation we spend an incredible amount
of money insuring our possessions and ourselves so that we can depend more
and more upon them.
Matthew 6:20-21 "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Jesus advice in the above passage is to put our trust in something that
cannot ever be taken away from us. But it’s more than just trusting - Jesus
is talking about the things that we treasure. What do you treasure? If our
hearts are filled up with concerns for these earthly things, then when God
judges the world, what will our hearts be worth to him?
