IN FOCUS - Our Bible Class |
|
When is it?
Thursday evenings 8 o’clock until 9.30
Where is it?
In our Sunday School room behind the church.
What is it?
It is a time to study the Bible and get to know who God and Jesus are and
how they want us to live. We cover all sorts of subjects, from going through
individual books of the Bible to prophecy and current affairs to how the first
churches dealt with the same problems that churches all over the world have today.
We also have evenings devoted to prayer.
What happens?
There is no set pattern for Bible class. A different person leads each week, so
the format is always varied. There may be a talk involving some discussion, or a
short talk followed by smaller groups of discussion and then some feedback, or it
might take the form of workshops where each group looks at something quite different
within the theme and then presents it to the rest. Sometimes we use drama and art
to help us understand things.
Bible class is not only a time for stimulating discussion but it is also a great
chance to get to know people.
Why don’t you come along and find out for yourself?

THOUGHT - "Requirements" |
|
Some people think that whatever happens they will never be able to live up
to the life of a true follower of Jesus. They say something like "There's no
point in trying" or "It's too late for me".
Other people think that by attending one or two church services a week they
are fulfilling all that is required of them. They think that by doing so
they become good upstanding Christians.
What does God require of us? The answer comes from the Bible: "To act justly
and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God".
We must always try to do what is right, but at the same time we also need
to learn to love mercy (for all the times when we fail). Above all we should
walk humbly with our God.
There is no way we are going to change our lives by ourselves, and just dropping
into a church service once or twice a week isn't really going to make the
difference. Walking with God is a way of life!
One way to remind ourselves is by remembering the 3 R’s (back to school time!)
R ead God’s word the Bible,
R each out to him in prayer and praise, and
R ealise that he is with us all the time.
God will change our lives for us!
At the Bethel we always try to encourage each other as we make the effort to
walk with God. We all need encouragement and we all have a duty to encourage others,
whoever we are. So come and join us!
